Loving a Soldier
Well, I created a blog before and it seems to be lost in cyberspace. To start out I'll reintroduce myself. My father is a 30 year vet of the Army....before him all members of our family have served back to the civil war. I am a USAF Vet myself and now proudly married to a Soldier. I will attempt to find my old blog entries and post them here.

One thing I wanted to talk about in loving your Soldier...is that recently...even though I'm well versed to the drill... I was feeling neglected. All of a sudden I got an email from my love telling me he knew how hard it was living a life with him. I broke down...feeling selfish but it just goes to show that sometimes we don't look at what the other person is thinking or feeling. This is all natural especially when you are separated so much these days. You have to acknowledge what each of you are feeling and then work from there. My love is working 16 hour days 7 days a week, so he doesn't always have time to contact me or write me those romantic emails or letters I'd love to have. I write him every night, but I have the time. Sometimes you have to stop and think about that. I admit with all my experience in the Military life, I was resentful...until today I opened up that email that he sent. It was like he read my mind. I'm not saying it will always be like that but...keep in mind that whether they can express it or not they are just as frustrated and wanting you as much as you are wanting contact with them.

For us to harp on them or try to make them feel bad is fruitless, as they already feel bad. They want to be home and take care of things. My hubby is always giving me advise on how to do things here...I know what to do, but I let him talk cause he simply wants to be a part and have some control on what is going on at home. So I listen and let him give those suggestions. I also take those suggestions to heart. Why....because it's important to him.

So the next time you are feeling down and unimportant....think again. You are...he or she counts on you. Be there and be as supportive as you can.

A Proud Army Wife,
Laura Roberts

Thank You Laura. It is a roller coaster, but the love is certainly there! JL

If you want more information on the wetting of the stripes, it is a ceremony that dates back to Frederick the Great and it is the ceremony commemorating when a soldier becomes a non commissioned officer. Chris is a sergeant now.
